A 43-year-old Paauilo man died following an early Sunday motorcycle crash in Paauilo, police said.

A 43-year-old Paauilo man died following an early Sunday motorcycle crash in Paauilo, police said.

He was identified as Glennon Pine.

Officers responding to a 2:47 a.m. determined that Pine was riding a 1998 Yamaha motorcycle west on Hauola Road near Pohakea Road when he ran off the roadway.

He was taken to North Hawaii Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 10:07 a.m.

Pine wasn’t wearing a helmet and police believe speed and alcohol were factors in this crash.

An autopsy has been ordered to as part of the investigation.

Witnesses are asked to call Officer Erhard Autrata at 961-2339 or the police non-emergency line at 935-3311.

Pine’s death is the 25th official traffic fatality this year compared to 16 at this time last year. There also have been four vehicle-related deaths in 2017 police don’t count toward the official yearly total because two occurred on private property and two in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.
